Source: Why Buying Local is Better Than Organic
A controversy in Canada has reignited debate: What’s better — buying local food, or buying imported organic? This writer says: Buy local!
Here’s why I agree:
For years I have bought organic food thinking I was doing the best for my Family. It wasn’t the best for my bank account, and often I found myself choosing food over fuel for the vehicle on leaner months. Organic seemed like the safest bet when I felt I could no longer trust most of the food in the Super Markets.
Now – I choose to buy local everything. Why? There is a very good reason for it. Not only am I supporting the local businesses where I live, and contributing to sustaining small business, I am also buying the best possible choice in produce, meat and other food products. It just felt RIGHT to me to switch to buying local rather than buying organic all of the time. Organic could be coming from anywhere and might not be that ethical, and/or pure and it was important to me to purchase from local businesses to support them, since I own and operate my own small business.
When I came across this article above that I have shared from Build Direct Blog: Life From Home it stated EVERYTHING that I had been feeling about purchasing local.
It’s a great article. I encourage you to read it, share it and then be sure to buy local as much as you can!
